The Vietnamese electric vehicle company VinFast appears to be entering the Indian market, as its VF7 electric SUV was spotted being tested near Mumbai Airport. Seeing the VF7 being tested on the roads in India is a positive sign that VinFast plans to launch the vehicle during the festive season, which is expected to be around October 2025.

The camouflage test vehicles were observed in Jet Black, one of four global colour options alongside Crimson Red, Brahimny White, and Neptune Grey. The VF7 also appears to feature new alloy wheels, as the Indian test model had 19-inch alloy wheels with Apollo Aspire tires, a change from the 20-inch wheels showcased at the Auto Expo 2025. This change is favourable as it enhances ride comfort on Indian roads.

Spy shots indicate that the VF7 has cameras mounted on the wing mirrors and bumpers, suggesting that the vehicle features a 360-degree camera system along with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Both models will feature a large floating touchscreen; however, it is still unknown if the Indian counterparts will receive the 12.9-inch or 15-inch display offered in other markets.

The VF7 Eco and VF7 Plus, the two variants of the electric vehicle, are available for global purchase under the VinFast brand. A 75.3 kWh battery pack powers both variants. The Eco trim features one front electric motor rated at 204 hp and 310 Nm of torque while claiming a WLTP range of 450 km. Meanwhile, the Plus trim features a dual electric motor AWD system that generates 354 hp and 500 Nm of torque, increasing its range to 431km. It remains to be seen what features or variants will be offered to Indian customers.

As the brand considers a battery leasing model to lower costs for buyers, it will help the company maintain a competitive price range between 20 lakh and 30 lakh rupees. This translates to VinFast assembling the VF7 at its new facility in Tamil Nadu, India.

Once launched, the VinFast VF7 is expected to go up against the likes of Tata and Mahindra’s upcoming electric SUVs and BYD Atto 3. The electric SUV market in India is growing, and with the mid-range price of the VF7, it’s bound to have traction.
