Tata Harrier EV Battery
With the launch of the new Tata Harrier EV, it has become one of the pioneers in India’s electric SUV segment, particularly due to its innovative battery technology. Harrier EV offers two battery options – a 65 kWh and a 75 kWh pack, both intended for real-world performance and range efficiency. The top-tier variant features a 75 kWh battery, which is integrated with Tata’s advanced acti.ev platform, enabling both FWD and AWD configurations.
Battery Capacity and Range
The 75 kWh battery pack is reportedly optimised for up to 500 km of real-world driving range, with some sources speculating an upper limit of 627 km under ideal conditions. Tata also claims that using a quick charger, the Harrier EV is capable of gaining 250 km in just 15 minutes and reaching 80% charge using 120 kW DC fast chargers in 25 minutes. This kind of rapid charging is especially beneficial for extended trips or daily use.
Integration of Battery with Motor
The Harrier EV features liquid cooling technology, which is efficient in maintaining optimal temperatures and enhancing system performance, even during strenuous usage. In the all-wheel-drive variant, the SUV features a dual-motor configuration; the front and rear motors have been developed by Tata Autocomp and Schaeffler, respectively. In addition to the strong performance offered by this configuration, it also supports six terrain-specific drive modes, including Snow, Sand, Rock Crawl, Eco, and Boost.
Safety and Other Features
Braking and decelerating enable the vehicle to recover energy, thus improving overall efficiency. Energy recuperation through regenerative braking systems, integrated with the battery, enhances the overall efficiency of the car. The vehicle is expected to achieve 5-star safety ratings, and along with the primary safety systems such as the powertrain, advanced structural integrity, and frame of the Harrier EV, designed to meet strict safety protocols, multi-tiered architecture of safety, also equips seven airbags, ABS with EBD, and a suite of advanced electronic stability aids.
Competitor Analysis
In the Indian electric SUV industry, the Tata Harrier EV leads the segment with its advanced, pioneering battery systems. These suit urban commuters and long-distance travellers due to their ultrahigh capacity, speedy charging capabilities, and effective thermal management. Buyers now have the option of two battery configurations, which allows them flexibility in choosing and tailoring their range, budget, and spending preferences.
