Expected in July 2025, Renault is set to unveil one of its most anticipated models, the 7-seater SUV, Boreal. This addition substantially expands the Duster range, as it now aims to appeal to families looking for a mid-size SUV.
Renault Boreal will be launched in Latin America, serving as its initial marketplace. From there, it will be rolled out in over 70 other markets, including India, which is expected to receive it by 2026. Once launched, the 7-seater Duster will rival its closest competitors, including the Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, and Tata Safari.
Design and Platform
The Boreal is the Dacia Bigster, now in the process of rounding off its sharp edges to fit Renault’s overseas markets. It is based on the CMF-B modular platform of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, which also supports the rest of the new Indian generation Duster. Thus, Boreal features a 6 and 7-seat configuration, with the 6-seater offering captain chairs for the second row.
The design highlights comprise chrome-accented Duster-reminiscent front grills, sleek headlamps featuring Y-shaped LED daytime running lights, aggressive bumpers, and pronounced air intake systems. The SUV will also feature body black cladding, 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, V-shaped LED taillights, and silver roof rails, fostering a rugged yet premium look.
Powertrain and Features
Boreal is expected to be a 7-seater and will share engines with the new Duster, including a 1.3L turbocharged petrol engine capable of up to 167bhp, as well as strong or mild hybrid powertrains in some regions. For India, a 1.6L petrol hybrid paired with a 1.0L turbo petrol is more probable, with higher trims potentially featuring a 1.3L turbo petrol.
Boreal is expected to feature a new Duster cabin, which includes a ten-inch digital driver’s display, dual-zone climate control, and a 6-speaker Arkamys sound system. Furthermore, a panoramic sunroof, dual-tone grey and black upholstery, a ten-point infotainment system touchscreen, and a boreal are also expected to have the same equipped safety features, including six airbags, electronic stability control, and advanced driver assistance systems such as automatic emergency braking and lane keep assist. It has a global three-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
Pricing and Launch Timeline
The new 7-seater Duster is expected to be launched in India in 2026, following the release of the 5-seater version. It is likely to cost between ₹13 lakh and ₹ 18 lakh (ex-showroom). The new Duster will serve as a more affordable option compared to competing three-row SUVs in the segment.
