According to reports, JSW MG Motor India has launched a new model of the SUV called the MY2025 Astor. With prices starting at ₹11.30 lakh (ex-showroom), MG has remained competitive in the Mid-Size SUV segment as the Astor is now the sole SUV under ₹12.5 lakh that has a 10-inch infotainment system alongside a panoramic sunroof. This reinforces his statement that the SUV is feature-rich and strives to meet international requirements.
Updated Pricing and Variant Availability
The newly added Assist Shine and Select variant designs have been said to shift the Aspiration boundaries and change the perception of MG vehicles. The added shine is affordable and thus attractive, alongside a panoramic sunroof in its segment, making it the best value option. The Select adds a set of six airbags and premium ivory leatherette for comfort, safety, and style, alongside additional trim options. Fitted with higher trim level features were added to Sprint, Shine, Select, Sharp Pro, and Savvy Pro were added. The sub-vint range is priced at ₹17.56 lakh.
Engine and Performance
An Astor comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine rated at 110PS and 144Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 5-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission. The turbo petrol 1.3-litre engine option has been removed in this update. The SUV offers good fuel efficiency, ranging from 14.82 to 15.43 kmpl, suitable for both city and highway travel.
Feature Highlights
The 2025 MG Astor features infotainment and connectivity options, including a 10-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, i-Smart 2.0 with over 80 features, Jio voice command, and a remote access digital key.
Comfort and Convenience features include ventilated front seats, wireless charging (Sharp Pro), an auto-dimming interior rearview mirror, and heated outside rearview mirrors.
Up to six airbags, Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with 14 features, and a Global NCAP safety rating of 5-star are some of the Safety features.
Others include a 360-degree camera, cruise control, air purifier, automatic climate control, and rear AC vents.
Build and Design
The Astor still showcases its modern design aesthetics, including a massive front grille, swept-back headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs), wraparound LED taillights, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The SUV’s length is 4,323 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,585 mm, providing a spacious cabin for 5 passengers.
Competition and Market Position
The MG Astor has directly taken the position of mid-SUV class market leaders, such as Mazda, Parkers, and Suzuki Grand Vitara. Leveraging extensive safety features alongside premium fittings significantly lowers the Astor’s price, giving it an edge over its competitors in the market.
Conclusion
MG Motor’s 2025 launch further solidifies its goal of providing feature-rich vehicles in India. The first-time available amenities in the segment at this price make Astor tough competition for other mid-size SUVs equipped with cars.
